Union defeated at Port Republic

The old firm took on the Whippersnappers of the Union at Port Republic.  They outnumbered us in terms of players and figures.  They also knew the rules, which is never à good thing.

The Confederacy suffered one more hindrance in this game, that being the dice rolling ability of Senator Eustace P. Quilp, a political appointed General.  Not that the dice of General Uriah A Hittite were that much better.

Our mission, to prevent them taking control of the road to the rail head. Many rail trolley pump jokes followed...

Our deployment.  We had barely enough to form a proper line, and certainly lacked reserves.  The plan was to advance on our right and deny the Union ground, although there would be the possibility of falling back to a defensive position on the woods and fence line.

We push the right forward

Our battery goes down and becomes a sink for our lack of staff officers.

General Sheridan Phil, on his vast detour flank March into the wilderness.  Three hours of incessant probing!

We expected more up the centre, but this was enough to give us pause.  Lots of them thar bluebells!

And after forcing them back on the right they proved to be too many of them.  I recovered this flank after our roll of zero staff officers and three hesitant brigades.

Our batteries do sterling work and keep the left clear.  General Phil finally begins to arrive.

I recovered that left flank, but only to reveal yet more of them.  Time was called and probably just as well.

Our reformed line in the centre after that massed battery pushed us backwards

Finally the flank March arrives, but time is up.  We have prevented their attempt to sieze the road to the rail head.
A victory for the Gentlemen of the south.

Of course we are magnanimous in our victory, and perhaps with a little more seasoning these young boys would give us an actual run for our money!

Senator Credence Clearwater's Revival

It seems to be a Valley Campaign battle, perhaps an unreported one.  Thomas Jackson's boys are facing the Division of newly appointed General (and Senator) Credence Clearwater who is seeking to revive his political career by facing Stonewall's elite Southerners.

The view from the south.  Old Stonewall Farthingdale plans to use the fence lines as a defensive position and give 'em a hail of lead.

If course giving Farthingdale a hill means he will occupant defend it without thought to any other tactics.  It's a matter of honour suh!

On come the Bluebellies.  Thick on the right.

Thinner on the left and centre and he has kept a reserve off table.

But my line looks far thinner.  Those elites cost points.  The y tromp across the fences to get to me.

Maj General Stuart, a record of hesitancy with this fellow thoughout the battle.  Yellow Stuart is a name well earned.

The lines close.  I seem to have threats on both flanks and in the centre.  Lots and lots of these Union boys.

Credence comes on table and advanced in the elite Stonewall brigade holding the woods.

And they come on against the centre.  Confederate tactics here, in a hold and shoot

My skirmishes dispute the edge of the hill with those dismounted cavalry.  Turns out they dispute really well.

The Union are done as they reel back faltering.  I blame that hill!

The view from the union lines

Attack on the right.  It's a massed business

The thin rebel line

The centre falters, pretty much whipped.

The Stone wall brigade supports an attack on the left.

The end positions.

The Union Brigade on the far left is also beaten up

And my triumphant four sixes, seen from the Union side.

A great game, and an attacker was always going to be in trouble.  Really enjoyable.

I suspect Credence will survive the political outcome of the battle and try again!

The Great Chariot Race, Faustus Furius

The Christmas festivities commenced with a multiplayer chariot racing game.

A frenzied run down the back straight.  Eight runners off the line.  Bob takes an early lead.

At least one spinner, heading the wrong way.  Marcus Anus suffers particularly

And a series of collisions.

Our champions

The turn, all a bit tricky.

Even Marius Bob has a spin.

And whipping with dirty tricks.

Neck and neck between Marius Bob and Lucius Odious

And the bottom corner is a mess.

Bob vanishes into the distance

Bob crosses the line followed hours later by Lucius Odious

The race for the last place.

Roll of honour

Since I had three god on Bob's nose I took home a healthy 18 i cash.  Well impressed by Faustus Furius.
