Harald and the boys line up against the Celtic Fringe. |
At a conservative estimate there were 250 figures on each side, and probably nearer 300. |
Harald comes on, violently assaulting the centre. |
The Frank's charge in their cavalry, unsuccessfully... |
That has to hurt |
The big brawl for the village |
And looking from Harald's side as he assaults |
King Pepin deserts Lord Oliver, and joins Lord Roland. It's not going to go well. |
On the far left the Vikings assault the bog |
And the Frank's hold that wood. |
Harald's right is threatened. |
But he turns on the Frank's sweeping away the sink unit. |
Meanwhile those Scots struggle. |
Until the turn of the battle, Brave Harald falls... |
The Frank's have another go, with predictably catastrophic results... |
I'd say 2 and a half units for the Scots actually. We still held the village and you forgot to mention the glorious Scots cavalry charge. And of course we still had the brave lads in the bog.
ReplyDeleteThose infectious routs, yet again, made all the difference - doesn't do to get your king killed I suppose!
The Longships rules certainly have their peculiarities, luckily we are peculiar enough to enjoy them. An excellent campaign with a fitting (and bloody) climax. Well done to Dr. P for running it and thanks to Uriah and Swiss Mike for their enthusiasm, the games received plenty of glances and comment from the rest of the club. As for Harald... rumours of his death have been greatly exaggerated. He sailed back to Denmark with his voluminous booty and set about putting on a few more kilos in preparation for the next campaigning season. Skål!
ReplyDeleteI am delighted to know that our Viking hero survived. When it comes to putting on a few kilos King Pepin is in a different league!
ReplyDeleteAn epic and hugely successful campaign gentlemen.
